Living Newspaper Theatrical Tribute to the Labor Movement
On October 9th, 2007, a Living Newspaper play to celebrate the unveiling of the new César Chávez statue on UT campus was performed. The play, “Si, Se Puede!” written and performed by publicly engaged UT graduate students, explored the harsh realities of farm labor in the U.S. more than thirty years after Chávez spurred a national campaign for workers’ rights.
This Living Newspaper performance was part of the “Theatrical Tribute to the Labor Movement,” organized by the University of Texas at Austin Graduate Student Assembly. Also featured was a graduate student production of a piece by Luis Valdez’s El Teatro Campesino and high school students in the Grrl Action performance program under UT graduate student direction.
